5356 aluminium alloy is an alloy in the wrought aluminium-magnesium family (5000 or 5xxx series). Unlike most aluminium-magnesium alloys, it is primarily used as welding filler. It is one of the most popular aluminium filler alloys, alongside 4043. [1] It possesses relatively high strength, but at the expense of being more vulnerable to cracking.

A material's weldability is used to determine the welding process and to compare the final weld quality to other materials. Weldability is often hard to define quantitatively, so most standards define it qualitatively.

2219 aluminium alloy is an alloy in the wrought aluminium-copper family (2000 or 2xxx series). It can be heat-treated to produce tempers with higher strength but lower ductility. The aluminium-copper alloys have high strength, but are generally less corrosion resistant and harder to weld than other types of aluminium alloys.
The UNS number is K92580. The alloy has a modulus of elasticity of 28,200 ksi and a density of 0.285 lb/in 3 (7.89 g/cm 3). AerMet 100 alloy is somewhat more difficult to machine than 4340 at HRC 38.
