Gillig (formerly Gillig Brothers) is an American designer and manufacturer of buses. The company headquarters, along with its manufacturing operations, is located in Livermore, California (in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area).
In the late 1970s, Gillig launched efforts to diversify its product line; after a joint venture with Neoplan, the company developed its own mass-transit bus, leading to the Gillig Phantom in 1980. The Gillig Spirit is a bus that was manufactured by Gillig Corporation from 1989 to 1991. Marketed as a lower-cost alternative to the Gillig Phantom, the Spirit was produced as a transit bus. Through its production run, the Spirit was produced in a 28-foot length, with a 96-inch wide body; like the Phantom, the Spirit was a high-floor bus.
