Swaminarayan Akshardham in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India is a large Hindu temple complex inspired by Yogiji Maharaj (1892–1971) the fourth spiritual successor of Swaminarayan, and created by Pramukh Swami Maharaj (1921–2016), the fifth spiritual successor of Swaminarayan according to the BAPS denomination of Swaminarayan Hinduism.
The Akshardham was initiated by BAPS's fifth spiritual leader, Pramukh Swami Maharaj, and is one of the three Akshardham mandirs constructed by the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha; the other two are in New Delhi and Gandhinagar. Akshar-Purushottam Darshan (Akṣara-Puruṣottama Darśana [web 1]) or Aksarabrahma-Parabrahma-Darsanam, [1] "Akshar-Purushottam philosophy," is a designation used by BAPS as an alternative name for the Swaminarayan Darshana, Swaminarayan's view or teachings, to distinguish it from other Vedanta-traditions.
It is the 2nd largest temple in Delhi, after the Akshardham Temple. [3] [4] This temple is constructed from marble and on all of the facets there is jaali (perforated stone or latticed screen) work. It can be classified a vesara style of architecture. The temple was established in 1974, by Baba Sant Nagpal ji, who died in 1998.
