Great Dunmow is a historic market town and civil parish in the Uttlesford district of Essex, England. It lies to the north of the A120 road, approximately midway between Bishop's Stortford and Braintree , 5 mi (8 km) east of London Stansted Airport .

Thaxted County Primary School was established in 1878 under the 1870 Education Act. [29] It still occupies the fine Victorian building on the eastern edge of the town built for it in 1880 and is run by Essex County Council. Thaxted lies within the secondary education catchment area for the Helena Romanes School in Great Dunmow.
