This configuration existed until 1995 when area code 334 was added for the southeastern part of the state. In 1998, area code 256 was assigned for northern Alabama. It had an overlay area code 938 added in 2010, which required ten-digit dialing. The area code 251 in south Alabama was split area code from 334 in 2001.
While tourism is significant in the region, especially further south in the Gulf Shores area, the principal business along the Eastern Shore is retail. Large and expanding retail shopping centers mark both Daphne and Spanish Fort, while Fairhope is home to numerous smaller specialty shops in its downtown business district.
Fairhope is located on the shore of Mobile Bay. It is located 6 miles (10 km) south of Daphne and 10 miles (16 km) south of Spanish Fort. U.S. Route 98 (Greeno Road) runs north–south through the city. It lies on a sloping plateau.

Foley is a city in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. The 2010 census lists the population of the city as 14,618. [2] Foley is a principal city of the Daphne-Fairhope-Foley metropolitan area, which includes all of Baldwin County.
Malbis is an unincorporated community in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. The community lies at the crossroads of U.S. 90 and Alabama State Route 181 just south of I-10. Portions of the settlement are today within the city limits of both Daphne and Spanish Fort. The city of Loxley lies to the east.
