On September 21, 2018, Major League Rugby, the top-level rugby union league in North America, announced that Atlanta was one of the expansion teams joining the league for the 2020 season. [10] The team name Rugby ATL was revealed on February 26, 2019. [11] In 2023, the team relocated to Los Angeles.
