"In the Ghetto" (originally titled "The Vicious Circle") is a 1969 song written by Mac Davis and recorded by Elvis Presley. [5] It was a major hit released in 1969 as a part of Presley's comeback album, From Elvis in Memphis, and was also released as a single, with "Any Day Now" as its B-side.
In 2003, the album was ranked number 190 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. The first twelve tracks of disc one present From Elvis in Memphis in order, including the lead single of " In the Ghetto " backed with " Any Day Now ," released two months before the album hit the stores.
Presley also recorded Davis's "In the Ghetto" in sessions in Memphis. Mac Davis eventually recorded the tune after Presley's version became a success, and was released in a Ronco In Concert compilation in 1975.
