Jiehua (simplified Chinese: 界画; traditional Chinese: 界畫) painting, sometimes translated as “border painting,” “boundary painting,” or “ruled-line painting,” is a field within Chinese visual art that describes paintings featuring detailed renderings of architecture with shan shui (mountains and rivers) backgrounds and figures, boats, and carts as embellishments.

Art historian James Francis Cahill noted the contrast to later landscape paintings which depicts fishing as a more leisurely activity. [ 3 ] The textures of the trees are bold and twisted, with the trunks utilizing washes and dry strokes to emphasize lighting and volume, and in addition, the reeds are shown with flicks of the brush. [ 2 ]
Wu Daozi (c. 685 – c. 758 CE [1] or c. 689 – c. 759 CE), also known as Daoxuan and Wu Tao Tzu, was a Chinese painter of the Tang dynasty.The British art historian Michael Sullivan considers him one of "the masters of the seventh century," [1] Some of his works survive; many, mostly murals, have been lost.
