Fry's Electronics was an American big-box store chain. It was headquartered in San Jose, California, in Silicon Valley.Fry's retailed software, consumer electronics, household appliances, cosmetics, tools, toys, accessories, magazines, technical books, snack foods, electronic components, and computer hardware, in addition to offering in-store computer repair and custom computer building services.
Fry's Signature is marketed as a high-end, neighborhood tailored grocery store. One of the locations is on 20427 North Hayden Road in Scottsdale. [9] Another Fry's Signature store is located at 10450 N. 90th Street in Scottsdale. [10] There is also a Fry's Signature store at the cross streets of Cave Creek Rd and Carefree Hwy in Cave Creek. [11]
Federated Group was started by Wilfred Schwartz in 1970 when he bought a 25,000-square-foot warehouse in Los Angeles from an electronics company and turned part of it into a retail store. [4] In 1976, Federated Group closed two stores and built a 20,000-square-foot "superstore" in Westminster, California . [ 5 ]
Ultimately, the company was forced to close or sell all 17 of its locations between 1996 and 1997. Only six were ever consistently profitable; these six stores (Arlington, Dallas, Phoenix, Wilsonville, Sacramento, San Diego) were sold to California company Fry's Electronics in 1996, [4] which itself ceased operations in 2021. In December 1926, Sears, Roebuck & Company of Chicago announced that it would build a nine-story, height-limit building on East Ninth Street (later renamed Olympic Boulevard) at Soto Street to be the mail-order distribution center for the Rocky Mountain and Pacific Coast states, to be constructed by Scofield Engineering Company.
