The pain is so excrutiating that it is dabilitating. The pain comes completely out of the blue, and is unprovoked. It will last for anywhere from 2-5 or so seconds then will generally go away completely, as if it never happened. Occasionally, a lingering dull pain will remain in that spot, or migrate to the front of my head, but not always.

Stabbing pains in head. HI everyone, Today I've developed sharp stabbing pains in left side of head and around top of my ear. Was wondering if maybe neuralgia or an infection in a cyst I have. For about 5 days now, i have had a sharp pain on the top right of my head, it only last for about 2 sec, and then goes away, this is happening every 3 mins sometimes, and other times it goes away for about 1 hour. it has keep me up at night and even woke me up a few times.
Since about midday on New Years Eve (so about 56 hours ago) I have had a constant headache. All of the sudden it have been getting this really sharp pain on the top right of my head and then it hurts really bad where I am gritting my teeth and then it goes away in just a minute or so. It happened a couple times last week and then now today it kept happening to me about 5 times.
Re: Sharp Stabbing-Pulsing pain around Top Right Parietal Lobe area. Sounds like a cluster headache. It can be caused by certain foods, or stress. Sorry to hear your having these headaches they are horrible. The only thing that take away mine are relaxing and closing my eyes with a few Tylonol extra strength.
On occasion I will get a sharp, split second pain along the side of my head. I've had these on and off for several years. I only get them about once a year or once every other year. But boy are they painful. I did some research on them and have found that they are called ice-pick headaches and are possibly a rare.
