I just recently started on Colesevelam; the generic version of the medication Welchol. This medication is a bile acid sequesterant. It is estimated that as many as 30 - 50% of IBS-D sufferers are actually having a problem with bile acid malabsorption, and this medication treats that.
I have never tried Welchol, but I was recently put on Colestid and it has worked really well for me! I went from taking about 10 or more immodium a day down to just 2. I haven't noticed any side effects from it. I take 2 a day, I take it with my 2 largest meals which is lunch and dinner.

The only thing they prescribed that ever helped was WELCHOL, but that was for the bile salt diarrhea, it gave me one good week before the ibs took over for the problems the gallbladder removal caused and I'm right back where I started.
