Minor works (and any specifically titled subdivisions of italicized major works) are given in double quotation marks not italics, even when the title is not in English. Use {{Italic title}} to italicize the part of the title before the first parenthesis. Use {{Italic disambiguation}} to italicize the part of the title in the parenthesis. Use the {{DISPLAYTITLE:}} magic word or {{Italic title|string=}} template for titles with a mix of italic and roman text, as at List of Sex and the City episodes and The Hustler.
For titles of books, articles, poems, and so forth, use italics or quotation marks following the guidance for titles. Italics can also be added to mark up non-English terms (with the {{ lang }} template), for an organism's scientific name , and to indicate a words-as-words usage.
For example, "Stop!" has the punctuation inside the quotation marks because the word "stop" is said with emphasis. However, when using "scare quotes", the comma goes outside. Other examples: Arthur said the situation was "deplorable". (The full stop (period) is not part of the quotation.)
Some titles of major works will reference other titles of major works; some of the former will even go so far as to literally italicize the latter on their covers and cover pages. In any case the title should appear in the first sentence. The first time the title is mentioned in the article, put it in bold using three apostrophes. Multiparagraph quotations are always block-quoted. The quotations must be precise and exactly as in the source (except for certain allowable typographical changes ). The source should be cited clearly and precisely to enable readers to locate the text in question, and to quote it accurately themselves from Wikipedia.
