Lipoatrophia semicircularis, also known as semicircular lipoatrophy, [1] is a medical condition in humans, commonly known as ribbed thighs. It consists of a semicircular zone of atrophy of the subcutaneous fatty tissue located mostly on the front of the thighs. Skin and underlying muscles remains intact.
In this measurement, skinfold thickness of less than 10 millimetres (0.39 in) for men and 22 millimetres (0.87 in) for women at the anterior thigh is suggestive cutoff for the diagnosis of lipodystrophy. [7] Less commonly, biphotonic absorptiometry and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) can be done for the measurement of body fat. [5]
Lipoatrophy is most commonly seen in patients treated with thymidine analogues and other older HIV drug treatments such as the nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors [NRTIs] [9] like zidovudine (AZT) and stavudine (d4T). [10] Other lipodystrophies manifest as lipid redistribution, with excess, or lack of, fat in various regions of the body ...
3. Sleep Deprivation. There is a link between sleep loss and weight gain. Research shows that people who routinely don’t get enough sleep tend to eat higher-calorie and higher-fat diets.. Not ...
Lipoatrophy is the term describing the localized loss of fat tissue. This may occur as a result of subcutaneous injections of insulin in the treatment of diabetes , from the use of human growth hormone or from subcutaneous injections of copaxone used for the treatment of multiple sclerosis .
Cryolipolysis (commonly referred to as "fat freezing") is a non-invasive procedure for fat removal that uses extreme cold to freeze subcutaneous adipose tissue in specific areas of the body. This process aims to reduce localized fat deposits. [1] [2] [3]
Fat removal procedures are used mostly in cosmetic surgery with the intention of removing unwanted adipose tissue. The procedure may be invasive, as with liposuction , [ 1 ] or noninvasive using laser therapy , radiofrequency , ultrasound or cold ( cryoablation or cryolipolysis) to reduce fat, sometimes in combination with injections.
Fat transfer, also known as fat graft, lipomodelling, or fat injections, [1] [2] is a surgical process in which a person's own fat is transferred from one area of the body to another area. The major aim of this procedure is to improve or augment the area that has irregularities and grooves. [ 3 ]
