Critical Role is an American web series in which a group of professional voice actors play Dungeons & Dragons with Mercer as the Dungeon Master and creator of the world Exandria. [2] A number of licensed works based on the show have been created, such as the Critical Role: Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting and Critical Role: Vox Machina Origins.
Exandria Unlimited (ExU) is set in the city of Emon on the continent of Tal'Dorei 30 years after Campaign One and 10 years after Campaign Two. [2] [3] IGN reported, in June 2021, that "Exandria Unlimited will be considered canon within the wider Critical Role story, and 'will affect future environments and timelines across the overall lore of Critical Role.'
Critical Role: Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting was released using the Wizards of the Coast Open Game License [14]: 143 and is not considered "official" Dungeons & Dragons material (unlike the Explorer's Guide to Wildemount, which was published by Wizards of the Coast and is considered "official" material). [8]
Critical Role's commercial success has led to many other related products, including a prequel comic series, [219] [20] art books, [220] [221] a novel, [222] [223] two campaign setting books (Critical Role: Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting and Explorer's Guide to Wildemount), [224] [225] [226] and the animated series The Legend of Vox Machina.
The campaign sourcebook, Critical Role: Tal'Dorei Campaign Setting (2017), is a guide to the setting of campaign one. [40] It was published by Critical Role and Green Ronin Publishing [41] under the Wizards of the Coast Open Game License [42]: 143 and is not considered "official" Dungeons & Dragons material. [41]
