The Fachhochschule Frankfurt am Main was created on 1 August 1971 by integrating various predecessor institutions, including the Higher School of Social Work, the State Higher Economic School (HWS), and engineering schools. More than 40 degree courses consist of an obligatory stay abroad being composed of a study and internship abroad. Further attributes of these international degree courses are the language courses of a foreign language as well as the multilingualism of many other courses and also the cooperation with around 300 foreign universities in 2008.
The approximately 300 international students attend the Freshman Program each year in Geilenkirchen, Germany, on the boarding school-type campus. The program focuses on preparing students to study engineering, business and economics or medicine. A unique highlight is the possibility to start in English and progress to studying in German.
