There was a Roman settlement in a bend of the River Avon at Tiddington, almost 1 + 1 ⁄ 2 miles (2 km) north-east of the Roman road linking Salinae and Alchester. Tiddington Road follows the main axis of the settlement. There were archaeological excavations in the area in 1923–27, 1937, 1939, 1981 and 1983. [2]
Wootton Wawen / ˈ w ʊ t ən ˈ w oʊ. ən / is a village and civil parish in the Stratford-on-Avon district of Warwickshire, England.The village is on the A3400 in mid-western Warwickshire, about 20 miles (32 km) from Birmingham, about 2 miles (3 km) south of Henley-in-Arden and about 6.5 miles (10 km) north of Stratford-upon-Avon.
Other activities include fishing, boating and canoeing though there is no slipway. The route of the Stratford Marathon passes through the village and the villagers host a water station and toilet facilities at their homes and the hall. Dodwell Farm, about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of the village hosts occasional motocross events during the summer.
