Newark-on-Trent (/ ˌ nj uː ər k-/) [1] or Newark [2] is a market town and civil parish in the Newark and Sherwood district in Nottinghamshire, England. [3] It is on the River Trent, and was historically a major inland port. [4] The A1 road bypasses the town on the line of the ancient Great North Road.
Beacon covers a large portion of the town, mostly the areas surrounding the western side of the A1 road and East Coast Main Line between Newark and New Balderton.The area also extends to the south of the town and covers the Hawton Lane, London Road, and Barnby Road areas.

Newark and Sherwood is a local government district in Nottinghamshire, England. It is the largest district by area in the county. The council is based in Newark-on-Trent, the area's largest town. The district also includes the towns of Southwell and Ollerton along with a large rural area containing many villages.
