Virtual education is most commonly used in high school and college. 30-year-old students or older tend to study online programs at higher rates. [4] This group represents 41% of the online education population, while 35.5% of students ages 24–29 and 24.5% of students ages 15–23 participate in virtual education.

It was founded in 1934 as an independent college and later became a subsidiary of Laureate Education, Inc. [1] On August 6, 2018, National Louis University received approval from the Higher Learning Commission and the U.S. Department of Education to transfer Kendall College's programs and other assets from Laureate Education to the university.
Once the state of Illinois took over control of the institution, the student body and programs offered rapidly expanded. The college experienced two more name changes, becoming Chicago State College in 1967 and Chicago State University in 1971, a year before moving to a new campus.
