Ravenshaw University, formerly known as Ravenshaw College, is a co-educational state university situated in Cuttack, Odisha on the eastern coast of India. Founded as Ravenshaw College in 1868, the institution became a university in 2006. [2] The university has nine schools, thirty three academic departments and a student enrolment of nearly 8,000.

Ravenshaw Collegiate School is the oldest High School of Odisha which was established in 1851 by Thomas Edward Ravenshaw in the District of Cuttack in Odisha, India. [1] It was one of three institutions founded by Ravenshaw, the other two being the Ravenshaw Girls' School and the Ravenshaw College, the latter now having become Ravenshaw University.
Ravenshaw University came into existence on 15 November 2006. It was an up-gradation of Ravenshaw College established in 1868, one of the oldest and largest colleges in India which subsequently became an autonomous college with CPE status by UGC and 'A' grade by NAAC. [60]
In 2017 Patro was appointed as the vice-chancellor of Ravenshaw University, India for a period of 3 years. [4] He succeeded Prakash Chandra Sarangi in this position. Before joining as a vice-chancellor, Patro was working as a professor in Neuroscience/Zoology department of Jiwaji University, Gwalior. Madhya Pradesh. [5]
The university was established in 1943 and was operating from Ravenshaw College in the early days. The foundation stone of the current Utkal University campus at Vani Vihar, Bhubaneswar, was laid by Dr. Rajendra Prasad , the first President of India, on 1 January 1958.
The University Grants Commission (UGC), draws its power from the University Grants Commission Act, 1956. [1] In addition, 15 Professional Councils are established, controlling different aspects of accreditation and coordination. [2] The UGC publishes and regularly updates the lists of state universities. [3]
