Basic Combat Training, or BCT, is a ten-week process which includes one week of reception. Reception Battalion is the first stop before meeting the drill sergeants and starting Basic Combat Training. Reception will typically last between 3–5 days and includes; physical exam, vaccinations, haircut, uniform and Army Physical Fitness Uniform.

The brigade command and headquarters established the first U.S. National Command Element in Kandahar to facilitate the transfer of authority of combat operations to NATO-led coalition allies. In May 2007, the BCT received orders to prepare for a deployment to Iraq and deployed in November 2007 on a 14-month deployment.

On 6 June 2022, the 1st Stryker BCT and 4th Infantry BCT(A), 25th ID were transferred to the reactivated 11th Airborne Division as part of the US Army's new arctic strategy and to help boost morale among units stationed in Alaska. [1] [2] These two brigades have been redesignated 1st Infantry BCT and 2nd Infantry BCT(A) respectively.
