The Lettermen are an American male pop vocal trio whose trademark is close-harmony pop songs with light arrangements. The group started in 1959. [1] They have had two Top 10 singles (both No. 7), 16 Top 10 singles on the Adult Contemporary chart (including one No. 1), 32 consecutive Billboard chart albums, 11 gold records, and five Grammy nominations.
She left the group work on the show Hawaiin Eye. Though the group would later disband, for Tony, it laid the foundation of what would become known as The Lettermen. The first unofficial incarnation of The Lettermen came in 1958, with Butala, Mike Barnett, and Talmadge Russell, who would later be replaced by Jerry Paul.
According to Letterman Tony Butala, they had changed their singing style from "straight block pattern... to using close harmony in tune." They sang fewer ballads and their soft tunes were still as breathy. They also dropped the "the" from the name of the group, calling themselves "Lettermen" on the new Now And Forever album and "Eastward" single.
