US Highway 24 (US 24) is a United States Numbered Highway that runs from Minturn, Colorado, to Independence Township, Michigan.In Michigan, it is also known as Telegraph Road and runs for 79.828 miles (128.471 km) as a major north–south state trunkline highway from Bedford Township at the Ohio state line through Metro Detroit.
After the pass, US 24 separates from US 285 and continues east to Colorado Springs and then northeast to Limon, where US 24 joins I-70 for most of the rest of its routing to the Kansas state line. When the U.S. Numbered Highway System was started in 1926, US 24 in Colorado was designated US 40S.
The route's south terminus was adjusted back to Bardine in 1939, and a small gap at McClure pass was opened. By 1954, a large section of the route was deleted, leaving only a four-mile (6 km) road near Carbondale. The route was gradually expanded through the late 1950s and early 1960s. The route was entirely paved by 1978. [2]
