The only Mahayana deity that has entered the worship of ordinary Buddhists in Theravada Buddhism is Bodhisattva Avalokitesvara. In Sri Lanka, he is known as Natha-deva and is mistaken by the majority for the Buddha yet to come, Bodhisattva Maitreya. In East Asian Buddhism, the Six Guanyin (Chinese 六觀音 (traditional) / 六观音 (), pinyin: Liù Guānyīn; Korean: 육관음, Yuk Gwaneum; Japanese: 六観音, Roku Kannon, Rokkannon; Vietnamese: Lục Quán Âm) is a grouping of six manifestations of the bodhisattva Avalokiteśvara, known as Guanyin (Guanshiyin) in Chinese and Kannon (Kanzeon) in Japanese.
Inside, during the repentance ceremony, eleven monks invoke the Bodhisattva and repeat the Eleven-Faced Avalokitesvara Heart Dharani Sutra for several hours, six times a day.
