By 1994, MS King of Scandinavia was purchased by the company Color Line, renamed MS Color Viking, and entered service between Newcastle, Stavanger, Bergen and Haugesund. After several years the company sold the Norway-to-UK route along with the vessel to Norwegian ferry operator Fjord Line. In 1998 Fjord Line renamed the vessel to MS Jupiter.
Fjord Line currently run on its route to Bergen Stavangerfjord Old Bergensfjord (current Oslofjord) Fjord Cat. Fjord Line is a Norwegian ferry operator offering services between Norway and Denmark; in October 2020 the company announced a scale-back of operations whereby the ferry operations will only serve the ports of Kristiansand, Hirtshals, and Stavanger.
After being laid up for a few months, she was sold to Fjord Line and refitted at Ørskov Yard in Frederikshavn. She was then renamed Fjord Norway and began serving the Bergen–Haugesund–Egersund–Hanstholm route until November 2005, when she took over the Bergen–Stavanger–Newcastle route from the Jupiter.
MS Bergensfjord is a cruise ferry owned and operated by the Norwegian ferry operator, Fjord Line who use her on their Hirtshals - Langesund route. The ship was ordered in March 2010, launched in March 2013 and then delivered to Fjord Line on 3 February 2014, Bergensfjord is the sister of the 2013 built Stavangerfjord.
The fjord is a popular tourist attraction due to the beauty of its natural setting. It is only accessible by boat or by a nearby 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) hike over very rugged terrain. The Hurtigruten's ships on the route between Bergen and Kirkenes detour into Trollfjorden. It is also popular with other cruise lines.
Bergen is recognized as the unofficial capital of the region known as Western Norway, and recognized and marketed as the gateway city to the world-famous fjords of Norway, and for that reason, it has become Norway's largest – and one of Europe's largest – cruise ship ports of call.
