Only one prototype of each model was built. A prototype premiered at car shows in 1963, fitted on a Studebaker Lark Convertible chassis and using a 290-brake-horsepower (290 PS; 220 kW) [citation needed] Studebaker 289 V-8. Studebaker ceased engine production in December 1963 and consolidating all manufacturing to its Hamilton, Ontario, plant, ending the availability of that engine.
Production plans for the WX-3 included a range of three engine configurations ranging from 600 hp (447 kW) up to 1200 hp (895 kW) from a proprietary 7.0L DOHC V8 engine. Originally painted silver, the WX-3 coupé prototype was later re-painted teal by Wiegert to match the teal-blue and purple logo of his Aquajet jet-ski company.

The car was driven two times on the British motoring show Top Gear. First in Series 14, Episode 5 by Jeremy Clarkson , who held a positive reception to the car. The car later set a time of 1:17.7 on the Top Gear test track, being driven by the show's racing driver the Stig , beating the Pagani Zonda F Roadster and the Bugatti Veyron .
