Within Cape May, Ocean Drive became CR 26, CR 4, and CR 22 before it joined US 9. Past US 9, it became CR 21 and part of CR 585 before heading through Wildwood Crest and Wildwood along Atlantic Avenue. In North Wildwood, the route became CR 7/CR 585 before turning north into Middle Township and following CR 18/CR 585.
Motel construction in the Wildwoods began in the early 1950s. 1958 was a banner year for construction in Wildwood Crest, with the opening of the Satellite, Caribbean, El Reno (later the South Beach Motel), Sand Castle, Swan Motel and Tangiers motels. Route 73 is a state highway in the southern part of the U.S. state of New Jersey.It runs 34.64 mi (55.75 km) as an outer bypass of the Camden area from an intersection with U.S. Route 322 (US 322) in Folsom, Atlantic County, north to the Tacony–Palmyra Bridge in Palmyra, Burlington County, where the road continues into Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as Pennsylvania Route 73 (PA 73).
Route 147 eastbound past the Garden State Parkway in Middle Township. What is now Route 147 was an unimproved road back in 1927. [5] When the 500-series county routes were established in the 1950s, this road became a part of CR 585, a route that ran from Route 109 (then a part of US 9) in Lower Township north to US 30 and Route 157 in Absecon.
