According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.11 square miles (2.87 km 2), all land. [7] Burlington Junction lies 4.5 miles southwest of Clearmont, 12 miles northwest of Maryville, and around 17 miles east of Tarkio. Also, US Highway 136 intersects the northern terminus of Missouri Route 113 in the city.
As of the 2020 census, the population was 21,241. [1] Its county seat is Maryville. [2] The county was organized February 14, 1845, and is named for the Nodaway River. [3] It is the largest county by area added to Missouri in the 1836 Platte Purchase and the fifth-largest county by area in Missouri.
