Mapex Drums (Music And Percussion EXcellence) [1] is a Taiwanese brand of musical instruments established by KHS Musical Instruments in 1989. Instruments manufactured with the "Mapex" name include drum kits, snare drums and hardware.

The snare drum originates from the tabor, a drum first used to accompany the flute. The tabor evolved into more modern versions, such as the kit snare (the type usually included in a drum kit), marching snare, tarol snare, and piccolo snare. [1] Each type is a different size, and there are different playing styles associated with each of them.
A conventional three-piece kit consists of a bass drum, snare drum (14" diameter), hi-hat (12–14"), hanging tom (12 x 8-9" depth), and a suspended 14"–18" cymbal, the latter two mounted on the bass drum. Recently, Pork Pie has introduced the Little Squealer line, the Piglite acrylic line and the Big Black Brass snare drums. The Big Black Brass drum as well as the Little Squealers are MADE IN TAIWAN.
