While Moonidih coal block is located in west-central part of Jharia Coalfield , Mahuda coal basin is situated in the western part of Jharia coalfield.
The South Karanpura coalfield forms an elongated strip along the Chingara fault. Barkakana railway junction is situated at the south-east edge of the field.
