Menaul School is an independent, co-educational, college preparatory day-and-boarding school located in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Established in 1896 as a training school for " Spanish-American boys ", [ 1 ] Menaul School has evolved into a multicultural institution serving a diverse student body from grades 6 through 12.

Menaul was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where his father, also named James Austin Menaul (1843–1897), was principal of Menaul School. [2] After his father's death his mother, née Sara M. Foresman, [2] moved the family to Chicago, where Menaul attended Englewood High School and in 1908 enrolled in the University of Chicago. [3]
