Silverwing, a tabby, rumpy Manx male champion show cat (UK, 1902) Tailless cats, then called stubbin (apparently both singular and plural) in colloquial Manx language, [1] [2] were known by the early 19th century as cats from the Isle of Man, [3] hence the name, where they remain a substantial but declining percentage of the local cat population.
The Isle of Man (Manx: Mannin, also Ellan Vannin [ˈɛlʲan ˈvanɪnʲ]) or Mann (/ m æ n / man), [11] is a self-governing British Crown Dependency in the Irish Sea, between Great Britain and Ireland. It is one of the Celtic nations and is the homeland of the Manx people, a Celtic ethnic group.

In 1976 the zoo was taken over by a new owner, Jack Corney, and over the following years it was rebuilt as a sanctuary for big cats and primates. Since Corney died in 2003, the zoo has been run by his daughter Charlotte. [1] In 2017, Charlotte established the Wildheart Trust, making the Isle of Wight Zoo a registered charity. [2]
