French-Canadian folk music is generally performed to accompany dances such as the jig, jeux dansé, ronde, cotillion, and quadrille. The fiddle is perhaps the most common instrument utilized and is used by virtuosos such as Jean Carignan , Jos Bouchard , and Joseph Allard .
LGS standing for Le Groupe Swing is a Canadian néo-trad band of Franco-Ontarian origins. The band started as Swing before change of name in 2017. The two main members of Swing are Michel Bénac and Jean-Philippe Goulet.
At the Juno Awards of 2019, Une année record won the Juno Award for Francophone Album of the Year. [10] His second album, Tout ça pour ça, was released in 2019, [11] and was longlisted for the 2019 Polaris Music Prize. [12] The album earned Loud his second nomination for Francophone Album of the Year at the Juno Awards of 2020. [13]
In 2004, the organization changed its name to L'Assemblée de la francophonie de l'Ontario, partly to reflect Canadian francophones' modern shift away from identifying as French Canadian. In 2010 / 2011, their revenue was 1.4 million dollars. 1.2 million of that came from various government entities.
The first francophone band ever signed to the influential indie label Sub Pop, [2] they are most noted for their 2019 album Junior, which was a longlisted nominee for the 2020 Polaris Music Prize. [3] The band released their debut EP Un magicien en toi in 2013, and followed up with their full-length debut Le Voyage Éternel in 2015. [4]
