The Rev. John Joseph Cavanaugh, C.S.C. (January 23, 1899 – December 28, 1979), was an American Roman Catholic priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross, served from 1946 to 1952 as the 14th president of the University of Notre Dame, having previously served as its vice president since 1941.
Jenkins was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, and attended Creighton Preparatory School.In high school, he was captain of the swim team and prom king. [4] Jenkins earned bachelor's and master's degrees in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame in 1976 and 1978, respectively, and was ordained a priest of the Congregation of Holy Cross in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on campus in 1983.

Zahm attended the University of Notre Dame in 1867 and graduated with honors in 1871 as a Novice of the Congregation of Holy Cross. He finished his theological studies and was ordained in 1875. [ 3 ] Zahm was hired by the University of Notre Dame as a science teacher although he had interest in literature. [ 4 ]
