Republic Act No. 9723 was ratified by the registered voters of Dasmariñas through a plebiscite conducted last November 25, 2009, converted the municipality of Dasmariñas in the province of Cavite into a component city to be known as the City of Dasmariñas.
Traditionally, until 2019 and since 2025, it marked the start of the school year and formerly the university academic year (until the move to August in 2015-17). The holiday marked the end of the school year for students of basic academic institutions from 2020 to 2024 and today serves as the end of the university and college academic year.

The first parish priest of Perez-Dasmariñas, Valentin Diaz, was born on November 3, 1837, in Rincon de Soto, Logroño, Spain and was ordained in November 1860. This young missionary was immediately sent to the Philippines and one of his first assignments was Perez-Dasmariñas. He died in Manila on November 20, 1877. [1]

The Diocese of Imus was created on November 25, 1961 separating Cavite from the main archdiocese. Thus, the diocese serves as suffragan to that of Manila with its own leadership. It comprises the civil province of Cavite and covers a land area of 1,287 km 2 (497 sq mi), with a population of 1,643,549 of which 76 per cent are Catholics.
By virtue of the Apostolic Constitution Christi fidelium promulgated by Pope John XXIII on November 25, 1961, Cavite was created a separate bishopric from Manila after more than three hundred years. On April 26, 1962, the Diocese of Imus was formally erected and established.
