Apo Reef is a coral reef system in the Philippines situated in the western waters of Occidental Mindoro province in the Mindoro Strait. Encompassing 34 km 2 (13 sq mi), it is considered the world's second-largest contiguous coral reef system, and is the largest in the country. [ 1 ]
Apo Island was a community-organized marine sanctuaries, and as such it has been well documented by the global science community. [3] The project was started when Dr. Angel Alcala, a marine scientist from the Silliman University Marine Laboratory introduced to the local fishermen the importance of creating a marine sanctuary in the area.
Fort Rapids was constructed alongside the existing Holiday Inn Columbus East hotel. The hotel was renovated as part of the project. It opened in 2006. [1] [2] [3]Experience Hospitality assumed management of the hotel in February 2016.

The community managed reefs of Apo Island, located in the southern Philippines, known worldwide for its success. The waters around Apo Island are home to about 650 species of fish and 400 species of corals. The waters of Apo Island were not always this full of life.
The Apo Reef Light was a historic lighthouse built on Bajo Apo Island in Apo Reef Natural Park. [2] [3] The park is located in the middle of Mindoro Strait, west of the province of Occidental Mindoro, in the Philippines. The station was established to warn ships of the dangerous shallow reefs in that part of the strait.
