On 1 July 2010, Moreton Bay's water services (along with Sunshine Coast Regional Council's), moved over to the recently created water body, Unitywater. Unitywater was created by the Queensland Government as part of the State's takeover of South East Queensland's water facilities, dams and water supply networks.

In 2016, Grimwade was elected as a local Councillor to the Moreton Bay Regional Council, representing Division 11. [5] At the 2020 local government elections, Grimwade was returned to council, again representing Division 11 with a 76.52% primary vote. [6] He was again elected in 2024, this time unopposed.
