A common table expression, or CTE, (in SQL) is a temporary named result set, derived from a simple query and defined within the execution scope of a SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE, or DELETE statement. CTEs can be thought of as alternatives to derived tables ( subquery ), views , and inline user-defined functions.
A subquery can use values from the outer query, in which case it is known as a correlated subquery. Since 1999 the SQL standard allows WITH clauses for subqueries, i.e. named subqueries, usually called common table expressions (also called subquery factoring).
A subquery can use values from the outer query, in which case it is known as a correlated subquery. Since 1999 the SQL standard allows WITH clauses, i.e. named subqueries often called common table expressions (named and designed after the IBM DB2 version 2 implementation; Oracle calls these subquery factoring).
SQL:1999 (also called SQL 3) was the fourth revision of the SQL database query language. It introduced many new features, many of which required clarifications in the subsequent SQL:2003. In the meanwhile [clarification needed] SQL:1999 is deprecated.

[citation needed] This is to enable accuracy in communicating with other developers. Columns (really column names) being referred to as field names (common for each row ...
An alternative solution is the expression of the hierarchy as a parent-child relation. Joe Celko called this the adjacency list model. If the hierarchy can have arbitrary depth, the adjacency list model does not allow the expression of operations such as comparing the contents of hierarchies of two elements, or determining whether an element is ...

In addition, aliasing is required when doing self joins (i.e. joining a table with itself.) In SQL, you can alias tables and columns. A table alias is called a correlation name, according to the SQL standard. [1] A programmer can use an alias to temporarily assign another name to a table or column for the duration of the current SELECT query ...
