There are four UVB types of lamps: Fluorescnt Broad-Band UVB that emit 280-330 nanometer, Fluorescent Narrow-Band that emit 312 nanometer, Excimer that emit 308 nanometer and LED that emit 290-300 nanometer. PUVA means UVA + psoralen. It consists of irradiation of the skin with the UVA ultraviolet light, from a fluorescent bulb or LED lamps.
In contrast, fluorescent UVB lamps come in two types: broadband (or wideband) and narrowband. Broadband UVB lamps have a peak wavelength of 306 nanometers. Since only a small portion of their spectrum falls near the optimal 297 nanometers, these lamps require a higher dose of 0.5 joules per square centimeter.
The most common treatment is with narrowband UVB, which has a wavelength of approximately 311–313 nanometers. Full body phototherapy can be delivered at a doctor's office or at home using a large high-power UVB booth. [3] Tanning beds, however, generate mostly UVA light, and only 4% to 10% of tanning-bed light is in the UVB spectrum.
Narrowband UVB 311 nanometer is blocked by the topmost skin layer, and UVA 365 nanometer reaches the melanocytes that are in the bottom skin layer. Melanin is a dark pigment of the skin and the melanocytes produce it. The melanocytes produce melanin when their receptors detect UV light.
Light-emitting diode therapy (LEDT) is a clinical approach that applies different wavelengths of light to cure diseases or conditions with skin-safe lights. Following NASA's innovation in the 1990s with Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) that emit a specific narrow light spectrum, LED Therapy (LEDT) showed significant potential. [ 1 ]
It has been stated by de Miguel et al., that an annual three-week outpatient course of Goeckerman treatment costs $10,000 to 12,000 but repeat treatment may be extended to two years with the use of a $2,000 home UVB treatment lamp. [6] The authors state that biologic therapy costs $22,000 to 59,000 per year.

Phototherapy sessions are done 2–3 times a week. Spots on a large area of the body may require full-body treatment in a clinic or hospital. UVB broadband and narrowband lamps can be used, [39] [40] but narrowband ultraviolet peaked around 311 nm is the choice. It has been constitutively reported that a combination of UVB phototherapy with ...
