Christopher John Beckett was born 16 September 1915, eldest son of Ralph Beckett, 3rd Baron Grimthorpe (1891–1963), a partner in the banking firm of Beckett and Co., of Leeds, Yorkshire, by his first wife, Mary Alice Archdale, daughter of Colonel Mervyn Archdale, 12th Lancers, and Mary Kate de Bathe, daughter of Sir Henry de Bathe, 4th Baronet.
Born William Beckett on 10 September 1826, he was the third and second surviving son of Sir Edmund Beckett, 4th Baronet, of Grimthorpe, Yorkshire, and his wife Maria Beverley, daughter of William Beverley of Beverley. [1] He was educated at Rugby School and Trinity College, Cambridge. [1]

William Beckett was born in 1784 at Gledhow Hall, Leeds, one of eight sons and three daughters of Sir John Beckett (1743–1846) a banker who later became Mayor of Leeds and a baronet and his wife Mary Wilson.
