Established in 1992 by Bill Boulay, Barry Bialik, and Nick Coltman as the Anchorage Bypass, it was renamed the Anchorage Press in 1994.. In 2006, Anchorage Press Publishing, which published the newspaper and the Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman, was purchased by Wick Communications.

Jones was born Dorothy Ann Swanda in Pine City, Minnesota on October 29, 1929. In 1935, she moved to Palmer, Alaska with her parents and brother. They were one of 203 farm families, including 66 from Minnesota, relocated to Palmer as part of the New Deal-era Matanuska Valley Colony project.
