The hospital was commissioned to replace the aging East Glamorgan General Hospital. [1] It was built at a cost of £103 million and was opened at Ely Meadow (Welsh: Gwaun Elai) in 1999. The Trust was formed on 1 April 2008, following the merger of the North Glamorgan and Pontypridd & Rhondda NHS Trusts. Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board is the operational name of Cwm Taf Morgannwg Local Health Board.
