The 6.8mm Remington Special Purpose Cartridge (6.8 SPC, 6.8 SPC II or 6.8×43mm) is a rimless bottlenecked intermediate rifle cartridge that was developed by Remington Arms in collaboration with members of the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit and United States Special Operations Command [6] to possibly replace the 5.56 NATO cartridge in short barreled rifles (SBR) and carbines.
Barrett was still selling its limited stock of the M468 but only as an upper receiver kit and not as a complete rifle up until 2010. [ 11 ] The M468 has been largely replaced by its upgraded version, the Barrett REC7 , which operates via a short stroke piston that minimizes the direct impingement rifle's issues with gases in the receiver. It is an M4 carbine utilizing a short-stroke gas piston system and is available in either 5.56×45mm NATO or 6.8mm Remington SPC. The REC7 is Barrett's second AR-pattern rifle chambered for the 6.8mm Remington SPC cartridge, the first being the Barrett M468 rifle. The 400 LGND uses .4005" jacketed rifle bullets. 450 Bushmaster, Uses .284 Winchester cases. Cut the length to 1.700" to ...
The .277 Wolverine has shown near-comparable performance to the 6.8 SPC with 110 gr (7.13 g) bullets, achieving similar muzzle velocities of 2,500 fps (762 m/s) vs. 2,700 fps (823 m/s). The smaller case of the .277 Wolverine (compared to the 6.8 SPC) is more efficient and has less recoil due to its smaller propellant load.
It utilises an aluminium alloy upper receiver, with polymer pistol grip, trigger, and magazine housing (lower receiver) unit which is attached to the upper receiver using cross-pins. [35] It is available for the civilian market in 5.56×45mm NATO, 6.8mm Remington SPC and .450 Bushmaster via conversion kits. [9]
The lower receiver will also accept older mil-spec M16 or M16 upper receivers with an adapter. Receivers will be available that accept 5.56×45mm NATO rounds, 6.8×43mm Remington SPC rounds, 7.62×39mm rounds, and 7.62×51mm NATO rounds. Each upper receiver has its own rail system, which allows scopes, or other optics to be pre-sighted for each ...
