Triumph Church is a non-denominational evangelical multi-site megachurch based in Detroit, Michigan, USA. It was founded in the fall of 1920 by Reverend Claude Cummings as the Triumph Missionary Baptist Church. Reverend Solomon W. Kinloch, Jr. is currently the Senior Pastor.
The church was founded in 1939 in Scottdale as Travelers Rest Baptist Church. [1] In 1983, it moved to Decatur and adopted its current name. Eddie Long took over as pastor in 1987. At the time, the church had only 300 members. In 1994, New Birth became a member of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship. [2]
The Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship was established by Bishop Paul S. Morton Sr. in 1994 within New Orleans, Louisiana, [2] though it began as a movement within the National Baptist Convention, USA in 1992. [5] From 25,000 to 30,000 attended the first conference of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship in 1994. [9]
The church held services in the Teamsters Union Local #822 on 822 Bartee St. in Norfolk, Virginia, off Military Highway near Military Circle Mall. In 1985, the church began to erect a church at its present location at 2587 Campostella Rd. in Chesapeake, Virginia. The church's first service in this building commenced on Sunday, March 2, 1986.
