Species of the infraorder Cetacea A phylogenetic tree showing the relationships among cetacean families. [1]The evolution of cetaceans is thought to have begun in the Indian subcontinent from even-toed ungulates (Artiodactyla) 50 million years ago (mya) and to have proceeded over a period of at least 15 million years. [2]
The following is a list of currently existing (or, in the jargon of taxonomy) 'extant' species of the infraorder cetacea (for extinct cetacean species, see the list of extinct cetaceans). The list is organized taxonomically into parvorders, superfamilies when applicable, families, subfamilies when applicable, genus, and then species.
Cetacea (/ s ɪ ˈ t eɪ ʃ ə /; from Latin cetus 'whale', from Ancient Greek κῆτος 'huge fish, sea monster') [3] is an infraorder of aquatic mammals belonging to the order Artiodactyla that includes whales, dolphins and porpoises.
Basilosauridae is a family of extinct cetaceans. They lived during the middle to the early late Eocene and are known from all continents, including Antarctica. [1] [2] They were probably the first fully aquatic cetaceans.
It is the cetacean with the greatest appetite for human interaction and the most commonly used dolphin in dolphinariums. [31] Although the Bottlenose dolphin is the most abundant cetacean species in the Mediterranean, its population is in a slight decline. [32] It can be found along the coasts of the entire basin. [17]

Lagenorhynchus is a genus of oceanic dolphins in the infraorder Cetacea, presently containing six extant species. [3] However, there is consistent molecular evidence that the genus is polyphyletic [4] and several of the species are likely to be moved to other genera.
We tested the 6.5' tree with clear incandescent lights. If you opt for the 6.5' tree without lights, it's only $299 today — or $250 off its regular price. But for our money, we recommend a lit tree.
