Luke 16 is the sixteenth chapter of the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. It records the teachings and parables of Jesus Christ, including the account of the "rich man and Lazarus". [1] There is an "overriding concern with riches" in this chapter, although other topics are also covered. [2]
David Flusser, in a book titled Jesus and the Dead Sea Scrolls, has taken the phrase "sons of light" to mean the Essenes; their closed economic system is contrasted with that of other people who were less strict. [13] A Confessional Lutheran apologist commented: Jesus' parable of the unjust manager is one of the most striking in all the Gospels.
Tom Wright [15] and Joachim Jeremias [16] both treat it as a "parable". Proponents of this view argue that the story of Lazarus and the rich man has much in common with other stories which are agreed-upon parables, both in language and content (e.g. the reversal of fortunes, the use of antithesis, and concern for the poor).

If one accepts that Luke was indeed the author of ...
Luke 22:1–6 describes the chief priests and scribes' plot to kill Jesus in collaboration with Judas Iscariot. This scene is also depicted in Mark 14:1–2, 10–11 and Matthew 26:1-5, 14–16. Henry Alford notes that Matthew's account is the more complete and refers to Luke's account as "a mere compendium of what took place". [6]
Johann Bengel argues that the Pharisees in Luke's Gospel, who derided Jesus' teaching on singleness of heart, [1] also considered themselves "accomplished" in the skills of serving two masters. [2] Referring to the desert landscape inhabited by the earliest Christian monks, Peter Brown, in A History of Private Life, explains:
Luke 18 is the eighteenth chapter of the Gospel of Luke in the New Testament of the Christian Bible. It records the teachings and a miracle of Jesus Christ. [1] The book containing this chapter is anonymous, but early Christian tradition uniformly affirmed that Luke the Evangelist composed this Gospel as well as the Acts of the Apostles.
