Doty is a town in Oconto County, Wisconsin, United States.The population was 309 at the 2020 census. [3] The town was named for James Duane Doty, the first person to represent Wisconsin's third congressional district after statehood and Governor of the Utah Territory during the American Civil War. Doty died in office at age 65 on June 13, 1865, shortly after the outbreak of Utah's Black Hawk War. He was buried at the Fort Douglas Cemetery in Salt Lake City, Utah. [7] Both the community of Dotyville, Wisconsin and town of Doty, Wisconsin were named in his honor. Doty Street in Madison is named after him.
