Jason Todd was a young street orphan who Batman caught trying to steal the Batmobile's tires. Batman recognized some skills in Jason and adopted him as his second son and the second Robin. He was later murdered by the Joker, but resurrected by Talia al Ghul using a Lazarus Pit.
