A purok (English: district [1] or zone) is an informal division within a barangay in the Philippines. [ 2 ] [ 3 ] While not officially considered a local government unit (LGU), a purok often serves as a unit for delivering services and administration within a barangay.
Is the largest barangay in the city. It borders Barangays Cabid-an and Balogo on the east, San Juan on the west, Salog on the south. North of it is unclassified forest land, which offers a good hiking experience.
Purok and sitio boundaries are rarely defined precisely and may use natural landmarks such as roads, rivers or other natural features to unofficially delineate divisions. A single sitio or purok, or groups of these, form the basis of creating a new barangay.
This created twenty new barangays from Poblacion, based on the purok system, where purok leaders were appointed as provisional Barangay Chairmen. [7] The system proved to be cumbersome and unwieldy which led to the Municipal Council of Malaybalay to pass Ordinance No. 87 in 1974, downsizing the number of barangays to eleven.

Despite the partition of the Poblacion into two barangays, the old village identifications–the Purok–are still generally referred to in the present Jasaan. Jasaan town plaza is a good example of the separation of church and state property. A road runs through the middle of the plaza, making the demarcation line.
