Austin. We have always had the best luck with alfalfa. They will eat the corn and protein too, but the alfalfa keeps them hanging around our feeders the best. Re: Best feed to put out for Axis deer [Re: abel0223] #7263500 08/21/18 07:18 PM. Joined: Apr 2011. Posts: 3,596. Waxahachie, Texas.

Deer ration I've never been to a feed store that sold deer corn that didn't have a corn/roasted soybean mix of some variety. Ive had mixed results with it. Some places the deer don't seem interested in it other places they love it. All birds, pigs, raccoons, squirrels love it. Feed pens are a must if you have pigs.

Gillespie County. Alfalfa hay is one of the best, you might also try alfalfa cubes or cubed alfalfa hay that look like large range cubes since they are larger and WT have more trouble eating them. I have rattled in axis bucks in late Nov/early Dec in Kerr County. It is worth a try since the can be in the rut year round.

Deer on bigger places or low fenced places don't need hep with digestion. Whatever the reason, we feed the lower priced product and are extremely pleased with it. Just a note and from an old deer hunting sage with too many trophies to count, pick a feed and stay with it. Deer don't read labels. Don't buy this now and something else the next time.

    H. Joined: Aug 2014. Posts: 515. I have heard from biologists that cottonseed should not be fed to the bucks during the hunting season (October through January) because it will sterilize the bucks causing them to be infertile. It should be fed from February till September. Its supposed to take 6 to 8 weeks to get the chemical in cottonseed ...

I never advise filling a feeder completely full when trying to start deer on feed. I usually only start with one bag of corn and one bag of protein. I even put one or two bags of corn in the feeder first if the deer have never seen a protein feeder. Then once eating from the feeder mix corn and protein 50/50.

$2.00 a fifty less. We have big deer and they seem to like it. Whatever product you use, stick with it. Get them something and feed that something over and over. Deer are ruminants and consumption rates can deteriorate if constantly switching for price or whatever other reason. This is a photo of deer trying to get out whatever he can -
