The Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 is an Act of the Parliament of India enacted for the protection of plants and animal species. Before 1972, India had only five designated national parks . Among other reforms, the Act established scheduled protected plant and hunting certain animal species or harvesting these species was largely outlawed. [ 1 ]
These protected area categories were first introduced in the Wildlife (Protection) Amendment Act of 2002 − the amendment to the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972. [1] These categories were added because of reduced protection in and around existing or proposed protected areas due to private ownership of land, and land use.
The Wild Life (Protection) Amendment Act, 2006 provisions came in to force on 6 June 2007. It became operational in the year 2008. [1] WCCB won the 2010 Clark R.
